In Texas, unemployment benefits start from the week you submit your application—not the week you lose your job. That’s why it’s important to file as soon as your last workday ends. To assist applicants, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) provides tutorials and guides on its official website. Below is a simplified overview of how to file online.

How to Apply
The “How to Apply” page includes a detailed tutorial with step-by-step instructions and screenshots showing you how to complete and submit your claim. Online filing is quick and convenient, but be sure to carefully read each instruction. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk. Once your application is submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation number.
What You’ll Need
Before applying, make sure you have the following information ready:

Social Security Number

Your most recent employer’s name, address, and phone number

First and last dates of employment (month/day/year)

Hours worked and pay rate for the week you’re applying (including Sundays)

Military service start/end dates and a copy of your DD Form 214 (if applicable)

Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
You’ll also need to create a User ID and password to access your account.
